Gertjan Loot (trompet)
Gertjan Loot has won the audition for principal trumpet of the Residence Orchestra in The Hague (The Netherlands). He will be sharing this position with Huug Steketee who holds the other job as principal.Gertjan Loot started to play the trumpet at the age of eleven. He played soprano cornet in brass bands in Friesland, a northern province of the Netherlands.
Loot studied the trumpet in Leeuwarden with J.B. Holtrop and in Amsterdam with Peter Masseurs (principal of the Royal Concertgebouworchestra). In 1990 he started playing with the orchestra “Hoofdstad Operette” and since 1996 he has played in the “Orkest De Volharding”. He has also worked as a substitute in many orchestras and ensembles in the Netherlands. Besides the modern trumpet Gertjan also plays baroque trumpet, piccolo trumpet and flugelhorn.
